Weekend Moments: Back in Montreal Again

This weekend was my mother's 50th birthday, and I hosted a little cocktail party for her at my apartment... which meant a lot of cooking and preparing, but I love that kind of stuff ; )

I wore my new polka dot tights, which make me smile every time I look at them.

I baked tons and tons of macarons for the party and they were gone within minutes of putting them out.
everyone said they looked like mini chocolate hamburgers
... can't argue with that I guess!

I bought these little green pom pom flowers at the farmer's market...
aren't they cute?!

I got to play around with my uncle's vintage Diana camera, and now I really want one!

On Sunday morning we met friends at Rumi (a Middle Eastern restaurant in Montreal) for a very different kind of brunch... it was delicious actually.

And then we went to the market to pick out our Christmas tree. Finally! I've been waiting to get it all month (I know, it's ridiculous!) but my husband insisted on waiting until December.
(Because last year we got it so early it was practically dead my Christmas)
But today he caved and agreed since it was almost December 1st.... and I was like a kid in a candy shop! And now to start decorating it....
I hope you had a lovely weekend too.

A Day in South Beach - Happy Weekend!

What a wonderful way to end my brief sojourn in Florida...
Oh how I wish I lived by the ocean at times... but I guess living far away makes visiting it all the more special.

We had a great day in South Beach... exploring all the art deco architecture, enjoying the cubana cuisine and of course taking in that gorgeous beach & sun.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American readers out there, and have a fabulous weekend!

Holiday Shopping & Some Retail Therapy

What's a week of R&R in Florida without some retail therapy?!
Here are a few of my recent purchases that somehow snuck their way into my life, in between Christmas shopping for others of course ; )
This tweed mini from J.Crew (the picture doesn't actually do it justice in my opinion... it fits gorgeously!)

These lovely Seychelles on sale for 40$

and this adorable tank from Anthropologie.

And speaking of Christmas....

I find it so weird to see Christmas decorations in Florida among the palm trees and warm weather. Coming from Canada, Christmas equals winter to me. plain & simple.
What about you... would you ever spend Christmas in the tropics? Or if you live in a hot climate, do you ever long for the snow in December?

Weekend Moments: Swamp Tromping

So we've been tromping through the everglades, witnessing the wild side of Florida. I never realized how beautiful a swamp could be.
I hope you had a lovely weekend.

Happy Weekend from the Sunshine State

So I've been whisked away to Florida for some much needed R&R by the beach.
I am so grateful for this mini vacation. The sunshine does wonders for the tired soul.

Also, I should have lots of time to blog and catch up with all of you.... which always makes me happy : )
I hope you're having a lovely weekend.

Music: Montreal's Coeur de Pirate

I've been listening to her a lot lately - I just love her raw, sweet voice. I love that she sings in the softest French. And I love that all her videos are shot in Montreal. Have a listen.

I heart Mackage Coats

Montreal company Mackage knows how to make fashionable winter coats better than anyone else. No question about it!

If you live in a city like Montreal, your coat is a major part of your wardrobe. You literally wear it 4-6 months of the year.
Not only are Mackage coats incredibly sleek, stylish and sexy, they're also incredibly warm, and somehow manage to keep you toasty in the twenty below temperatures Montreal is so renowned for. I've had mine for 5 years now and it's still in perfect condition.

Although I wouldn't mind having a new one from this years collection.... just because....

(ok this one isn't for winter, but I just adore it!)

The New Caesar Salad & New Donna Hay

Donna Hay has a new cookbook coming out called, Fast, Fresh, Simple.

It looks fabulous, as expected. Here's a little snippet from the new book.... The "new caesar salad"... I just love her modern spin on classics.

Reflections on blogging...

Hi there lovely readers,
after a much needed time out, I realized a few things.... first off, I missed blogging. I missed it almost instantly. But I also felt relieved. Knowing that I didn't have to come up with a post idea for the next day was a huge weight off my shoulders. For those of you out there who have blogs and a demanding career or children, I salute you! I don't know how you manage to keep up, but if you have any tips, please let me know!
I guess it comes down to just going at your own pace, even if that means not posting every day.... so that's what I'll try to do.

Blogging is kind of like exercise.... it's a lot of work, and it takes time & commitment, put the payoffs are huge. You don't even necessarily realize the many ways it uplifts you, but you know you feel better when you do it. So thanks to all of you, and your encouraging words and support, it gives me so much.

everybody needs a little time out here & there

I've been a little overwhelmed by life lately.
And I think I need a little time to figure everything out.
Do you ever feel that you've spread yourself so thin that you can't do anything right anymore?
I've been feeling like that a lot lately.
So I've decided to give myself a little break from the blog world, in order to better take care of myself in the real world.
But I'll be back soon... I hope you'll still be around : )

Weekend moments: just hanging around

This weekend was filled with friends and food... just the way I like it! On Saturday we went to the market to buy lots of fresh produce and local goodies.

Do you ever wonder what happens to all the leftover pumpkins after halloween?

We played Ticket to Ride, my absolute favourite board game, and I kind of lost my voice from all the screaming (I get really into games!)

We put out the cheeses we bought from the market fromagerie, and they were gone within minutes!

My November poppy is still snug on my coat ... and I bent the pin around a bunch of times so that I wouldn't lose it
.... so far so good anyway ; )

I met a friend for a wholesome lunch at my favourite vegan restaurant, Aux Vivres. They serve these amazing mixed vegetable bowls & brown rice.
This is a Buddha Bowl... it was delicious, and surprisingly very filling.

And finally, I was delighted to see that the iconic Montreal Christmas tree was put up.
It's actually not a tree at all, just a bunch of lights strung up together.
But we all love it anyway, and Montreal at Christmas just wouldn't be the same without it.
I hope you had a lovely weekend.
