Travel plans... going to Portland

So we've just booked a very spontaneous short trip to Portland, Oregon next week. I've never been and I'm really looking forward to it.
We're going to be staying at the funky modern-meets-bohemian Ace Hotel. Apparenlty the room comes with a record player and a clawfoot tub...say no more, I'm there!

Do you live in Portland or have you been there before? I'd love to hear your suggestions of where to go and what to do.

I love Portland! The Ace is fun, and Stumptown Coffee is right downstairs. You can also rent old timey bikes from the Ace and ride around town. The restaurant next door, Clyde Common, is tasty, and there's a movie theater down the block that you can drink and eat at as well. Check out the recent 36 Hours in Portland for more info! http://travel.nytimes.com/2011/08/28/travel/36-hours-in-portland-ore.html?src=me&ref=travel

I LOVED THE ACE HOTEL! It was so trendy and hip and we had a ball. I've been to the Ace in NYC, Seattle and Portland and the Portland one is by far my favourite one. I highly recommend you check out Powell's which is the greatest bookstore I have ever been to but word to the wise, save it for last if you love book browsing as much as I do. I kept unintentionally gravitating towards it and ended up spending way too much time there!
Have a hoot!

I'll have to get Melissa to comment - she's been to Portland a bunch of times and one of her good friends runs a bakery there and they make some very famous whoopie pies...

Have fun luv!
