Weekend in New York City: the highlights

Here are a few highlights from our weekend in New York City...

Walking over the Brooklyn Bridge, which I'd never done before. 

 Dinner & drinks at this place was amazing.

 Walking home from dinner we stumbled upon two things on my "to-see" list: Magnolia Bakery and Carrie Bradshaw's apartment!

 I loved walking through the market at Union Square

 And eating macaroons on top of my sister-in-law's apartment in the heart of the city... what a view!

The raw bar at Blue Water Grill was definitely a highlight.
Man I love oysters!

Finally, the weather! It was 28-30 degrees celsius and sunny all weekend. No kidding people love this city!

All in all, it was a glorious few days in new york. 

There just never seems to be enough time to do and see everything we plan... but it's always so much fun, and we always seem to come back for more. 

Two years of marriage and still going strong!

 Happy two year anniversary, my love!

I just keep falling deeper in love with you every year that we're together.

New York City Highlights - EATALY

 If you don't already know it, EATALY is an incredible high-end market/grocery store that sells all the best Italian foods: coffees, cheeses, meats, wines, chocolates, pastries etc etc. It's the perfect place to buy supplies for a picnic. 

Which is exactly what we did this past Saturday. 

The only problem was that we weren't the only ones with this idea. 

Eataly, amazing as it was, was CRAZY busy! I do not recommend going there on a Saturday at noon, on Memorial Day weekend... what a zoo!

Nonetheless, I was very impressed, and everything we sampled tasted phenomenally good.

 It was so hot in NYC this weekend, everyone was out picnicking and sunbathing. It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the city.

 oh and the gelato at Eataly was AMAZING too!

We're in New York City right now, staying at my sister-in-law's beautiful apartment in the financial district. It's a gorgeous area - the buildings are so old and interesting. 

And I found mega-sized macaroons  at a nearby bakery.... they were obviously amazing!

 Today... some shopping and central park, tomorrow we plan to check out Eataly. What's your favourite thing to do in NYC?

midweek moments: I'll always love the city but I love the country more...

Montreal, you certainly look beautiful these days!

The husband and I are on vacation this week and we're really indulging in life's little pleasures.... like soaking up our beautiful city, sleeping in, and making pancake breakfasts with fresh berry sauce. 

Now that's the life!

 I drove out to the country yesterday to visit my parents. As much as I love the city, I will always be a country girl at heart. This is where I recharge. This is where I feel whole again.

 Walking through fields, picking flowers, baking with fresh farm eggs... it's magical!

I spent the afternoon baking with my mom and her lovely French friend, who taught us how to make her favourite Coeur au Chocolat. It was magnifique!

I just can't get enough of this place!

(And now that I've recharged in the country we're headed off for some real big city livin'.....  NYC for the rest of the week!!)

First dinner on my little balcony garden

Yesterday I finally got around to re-planting my little balcony garden.

I planted basil, rosemary, mint, lavender, and a few flowers. The garden is far from finished, but it's definitely a start.

 The weather has been so beautiful in Montreal lately, and we were finally able to eat dinner outside.

I feel so lucky to have this little outdoor space... for a country girl like myself, it definitely makes living in the city more tolerable.

Quick Dessert: Frozen Grapes & Chocolate

I saw this idea over at Jamie Oliver, and I was instantly inspired! 

What a fabulous last minute, no fuss dessert idea. 

Just pop some muscat grapes in the freezer for 2 hours and voila, a very elegant dessert!

Serve it with a delicious dessert wine, of course : )

Weekend Moments: girl time in Toronto

 This weekend was so much fun! I spent the entire weekend in Toronto with a few girlfriends. We laughed, we shopped, we ate delicious food and drank good wines, we stayed up late and had leisurely mornings.

It was wonderful!
