Weekend Moments: Autumn in the North

We're at the peak of fall colours up here in the north. It's nothing like what we get in Montreal, but it's still incredibly beautiful.

Handmade fall/winter booties for the little one, made from caribou hide and smell like teepee smoke (a very generous gift from a friend up north).
: )

We celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving a week early this weekend, and I managed to pull off cooking a 19 pound turkey without too much stress. We had 13 people crowded around our tiny kitchen table... it was warm and snug and felt like home.

And on Sunday night, we were graced with a magnificent solar storm (I'll share more photos from that later this week).

I hope you had a lovely weekend.

I can never get enough of your photos. Every shot transports me to Canada- and makes me want to live there.

those are the most beautiful booties ever. The artist wouldn't by chance sell there work would they?

ooh that's a tough one. The native women up here definitely sell their work, but no one seems to have an actual business of it. No one has an online store or anything like that.

i don't mean to bother you but i would love to get some for my grand daughter lili. Perhaps I could send you the payment through paypal and you could purchase a pair for me and post it when you get back to montreal. No worries at all if you can't though. I would just love to see the money going straight to the maker.

Margie, it might be more complicated than you think... the artists don't have them pre-made/on hand/ready to sell. Usually they make them for a specific person, and it takes them 1-2 months (it seems) to finish them. Also there is the problem of size. But either way, right now is not an ideal time, as I'm leaving the north next week in preparation for my delivery, and won't be back up here until January.
