Welcome the New Addition to my Family

No, not a baby....  a record player! My parents gave me this old one of theirs, it's not the best quality record player, but I couldn't be happier.
I propped it up on this old antique beer crate, and I think it looks pretty snazzy ; )
I just adore the unique static-y sound of vinyl... nothing will ever been able to replace that.

What's even more exciting is that I found this amazing record shop on St. Denis street in Montreal called Beatnick Records, and bought a bunch of used records for around $3 to $5 dollars each.... too much fun! I'd passed by this place a million times before but never really had a reason to go in.
The guys working there were a blast and I can't wait to go back.

So now, your suggestions... which old classics should I add to my collection?

  3. Anything from the 60s! Don't know if Sesame Street made it big there, but I love an old-school SS album a friend has. (Don't know why things sound better on vinyl :))

  5. Wow, you've got some awesome essentials in your collection already! My only advice would be to research what exactly you should look for in a record, i.e. scratches (some are bad, some won't matter at all), warped finishes, etc. That always helps me find the best of the best vinyl :)

  8. how lovely. i miss having a record player. we have a great record shop in my town too. sometimes we just buy them for the awesome covers. they just don't make covers like that anymore. any of the records in the photo you posted are ones i would have suggested. i love shannon and diana's suggestions too. i would also go with some jazz or big band as well if you like that... great for parties to put on the vinyl records (as long as they don't skip too much).. dave brubeck, glen miller, gershwin, john coltrane etc. i'm also partial to cat stevens and leonard cohen, which wasn't mentioned yet.

  16. What a great gift you've acquired. I love records. We have over 300. When I'm home my record player is pretty much on.
I love that you placed it on that box. It is snazzy indeed. So great to hear that you have a local record shop near you as well...sounds like a good one.

  18. Love that you are into vinyl. I still buy more music on vinyl than anything else. AND my turntable is Canadian - an Oracle. Gorgeous design and magic sound. Keep spinning.

  19. When the man I love broke up with me, my world fell apart. I had gone to several casters and I got no results or insufficient ones. I found alteroffiretemple@gmail.com and gave another try to retrieve my lover and restore the passionate relationship I had with him. I’m so glad I did and trusted him. He performed a spiritual cleansing to banish negative energies and cast a love spell. After 3days, the man I missed dearly started to call me and told me few days ago that he still loves me and wants to try again. Thank you
