Red velvet cake for my 30 year old hubby

Last week was my husband's birthday. He turned 30.
The scariest part about him turning 30 is that it means that I will be turning 30 soon too!

Every year, my hubby has a very difficult time deciding what type of birthday cake he wants... it's always between vanilla and chocolate. Or vanilla cake with chocolate icing... or chocolate-chocolate...  I'm telling you, this decision weighs on him all week leading up to his big day.

So this year I decided to try something different. Red Velvet Cake. I'd never made it before (I'd always been afraid of the red food dye in the recipe)... but I'm so glad I did because it was amazing!

Now to be truthful, my husband is very easy to please. I'm sure he'd like anything I made for him. But this, he loved. He said it was the best cake he ever tasted.
(If my mother in law is reading this, I'm sure he was exaggerating)

The recipe comes from Pioneer Woman - I always have full faith in her recipes, and they always deliver.
See the full recipe & instructions here.

I love that you baked your husband a cake for his birthday! So sweet! It sounds like he was really pleased. I'm overwhelmed by how charming you two are... and I don't mean that condescendingly. I know some people use charming sardonically, but not me. You two are charming!

I still can't figure out the iphoto. I'm so slow when it comes to this stuff! :)

Ooh, red velvet is such a special occasion thing. Not sure why, but it's just something I only make for someone/something really wonderful. I'm sure your husband loved it!

How's adjusting to your new life up north going?
