Beautiful Blue Trees... popping up everywhere!

How gorgeous are these photos of Australian artist Konstantin Dimopoulos' Blue Trees?

Dimopoulos uses environmentally safe pigments to paint trees blue, in hopes of raising awareness about the millions of acres of forests that are being destroyed each year.

He has painted trees in Melbourne, Vancouver, Virginia and supposedly this week in Seattle.

Doesn't it look like in Avatar?!

Love Letter to a Contemporary Dancer

This week my incredibly talented cousin (and best friend in the entire world), Eleesha Drennan, won first prize at the International Solo Dance Theatre Festival in Stuggart, Germany.
The competition was pretty fierce and intimidating, but she danced her little heart out and won first place for dance. Isn't that amazing?! I couldn't be more excited for her!

It's so hard to make it in the contemporary dance world, but she's doing it anyway!

In one month my husband and I are heading out to the UK to watch her perform with the National Dance Company of Wales, and watch the company perform her own choreography too.
This will be the first time I'll get to see her performing live professionally. I can't wait!

If you can't find a pumpkin (because you live 1500km north of civilization), make one instead!

It will be a pumpkinless halloween in this here northern town.
I spoke with the manager of The Northern (our only store up here) and she explained to me that she accidentally ordered the pumpkins too late, and they'll probably only arrive after the 31st.

This is the first year that the hubs and I can actually give out candy on halloween.
For the past 6 years we've lived in a high rise Montreal apartment, and no kids ever went trick-or-treating up there. Now that we have a street level front door we have to be prepared! So we stocked up on a variety of delicious mini chocolate bars (our favourite kinds, of course, in case no kids come by). But then we discovered the whole lack of pumpkins fiasco.
Without a pumpkin outside our door, how will the kids know we have the goods?!

So I decided to make one instead.

It's no candlelit jack-o-lantern, but I think it does the trick : )
Happy Halloween!

The Art of Powder

How cool is this graffiti eye shadow by M.A.C?!
Not sure how practical it is, but the concept is awesome.
Also it might just be too pretty to actually use.

Oh but I love it though.

Do you remember my love of subway maps?
(Or I should really say, my husband's love of subway maps)
Well, I also love a uniquely designed funky subway station too.
Aren't these ones cool?!

I so want to go to Stockholm one day!

Tony Orrico: Talk about ambidextrous!

Have you seen this guy before?
Tony Orrico is a human spirograph.
He creates these incredible mandala-like patterns by twisting around on his stomach
in deliberate movements.
Pretty cool stuff eh?

I heart Alexa Meade

I can't remember where I first saw Alexa Meade's artwork, but I know that I instantly fell in love... even more so when I realized that her canvas was live models, posing in front of painted or real life backgrounds . Isn't that incredible?!
Watch this video of how she does it... it's amazing!

Incredible graphite pencil tip carvings

I imagine that Brazilian artist Dalton Ghetti started his artwork in primary school, while listening to boring grammar lectures...

Aren't these pencil tip carvings incredible?!
People are just so darn creative!

Artwork for Autumn

Aren't these leaf carvings by Nature's Art absolutely incredible?!
I can't even imagine how long these must take.
Very zen, indeed.

Aren't these prints by Montreal artist Shira Sela just so full of sweetness & love?!

Dreamy, Hazy, Heatwave

Montreal is in a heat wave and we are burning, burning.
I find myself in this persistent dreamlike state.
Reality feels as hazy as the thick, humid air.
It's too hot for anything but sleeping, but it's even too hot to sleep.

There is something so ethereal about intense summer heat. It feels almost meditative.
